It’s an event we locals await with anticipation, the moment when the gates of the North and South Areas of Forillon National Park finally open in the Spring, allowing us go for a turn in the park and officially start the season. Early season also happens to be one of the optimum times to see fauna. Come with me on a photographic visit of the park in late May.

Hike to the beautiful Cap-Gaspé lighthouse on the tip of the peninsula, and enjoy the serene beauty of the area the Mi’kmaq named “Land’s End”.
This season seems to be one where stars align to increase occupancy. The low Canadian dollar encourages our citizens to stay within the country, and invites our southern neighbors and many Europeans to take advantage of the favorable currency exchange rate. Canada’s 150th anniversary and the free admittance to all National Parks is also increasing demand, since we are located right beside Forillon National Park.

As I live in the Gaspé peninsula only half the year, it is not very difficult for me to list my favorite local products. All I have to do is think of these products I transport from one place to another, I gift to non-gaspesian friends, that I freeze for myself. Most of all, they are products I look forward to eat when I return!
It is a question I often hear, mostly from those with flexible schedules. My answer is always the same, it depends on your interests as each month has pros and cons. I tried to compile a few for you.
The area sure has a lot to offer to hiking enthusiasts, the meeting of the sea and mountains forming striking landscapes. Here are some suggestions of trails to head to, from the easiest loop to the most arduous mountain hike.
